A steward of the land and native tradition, Jesse Robbins makes each of his pieces by hand, working with coin silver and recycled sterling, stamps of his design and stones from his own Cheyenne Turquoise Claim.
Located in Nevada's high desert, the claim doesn't produce a lot of turquoise but that which it does is of the highest-grade. Robbins' respect for the stone and considerable skills enable him to use even the smallest pieces.
"Cheyenne produces this incredible variation of stone—the bluest blues, the greenest greens—when I put them together in mosaic form it creates a color hue that complements itself," says Robbins. "I'm just part of long lineage who seek this stone. It's meant to be a part of us."
