While Franklin implored a penny saved (and we certainly now feel so inclined) ’twas Lincoln’s birthday centennial (c 1909) which led to his famous penny’s existence. Lincoln’s 2009 bicentennial inspired our best-of-all banks. We honor thrift, savings, and the oh-so handsome Lincoln penny, richly copper plated, strong and honest as Abe.
