Phenomenally gorgeous, our patchwork rug celebrates the time-honored art of Turkish carpetmaking. Woven nearly a century ago, original antique carpets are cut and pieced by modern-day artisans into a single pastiche of pattern and color, backed with a heavy wool/cotton blend. The process that creates a rug is time and labor-intensive. The raw wool is brought into Nepal from Tibet, where sheep live at high altitudes in extreme conditions that result in some of the finest wool in the world. Rich in lanolin, this wool boasts very strong fibers. Once in Nepal, the wool is washed and hand spun. Hand spinning is a much more expensive and time-consuming process than machine spinning, but it has two distinct advantages. Hand spinning breaks down fewer fibers of wool, so the end result is a stronger fiber and longer wearing wool. Hand spun wool has an irregular diameter, which gives the rug a more interesting texture.
After the wool is dyed, the rugs are hand-knotted on cotton warps, using looms and techniques that haven't changed since their inception several centuries ago. A 4x6-foot rug requires approximately 250 hours to complete. The hand knotting process and the superb quality of the wool produce a rug that will last for generations, under normal wear and circumstances. |

Furniture and Large Item Orders
Due to the large size and weight of furniture shipments, most pieces are shipped by a freight company. You will be notified by mail 2-3 weeks before delivery, and the carrier will contact you by phone to set up a 4 hour window for the appointment. Deliveries are Monday through Friday. These shipments are delivered through your doorway. Because home furnishings, rugs, lamps and other large items are heavier and bulkier than most, shipping costs are higher. A delivery surcharge has been added to these items; this charge is listed in parentheses ($) after the product price and is in addition to the order shipping charges. All shipping rates apply to deliveries in the contiguous 48 states; shipping rates to Alaska, Hawaii, US Possessions and foreign countries require a quote. Certain delivery areas may require an additional cost and may have specific days for delivery. Assembly is available for an additional charge.
