My destiny was to be a silversmith. My maternal grandmother is from the Peshlaki family, "peshlaki" being the Navajo word for "silver." I started making jewelry almost 40 years ago. My first piece was a bolo tie, though the goal was a concho belt. Completely self-taught, I began my artistic journey with the purchase of some sterling silver, a few stones, and a torch. I immediately got to work, honing my skills as a silversmith, and enjoying the process. Within a few years, I became an expert in the art of creating squash blossom necklaces. The repetition of this unique style granted my opportunity for success; all within one necklace. —Kee Nataani

I started working with Sundance behind the scenes, braiding leather for Charlie Favour. Without this experience, I would have never incorporated braiding into my silversmith craft. This experience, tied to Sundance, began my career. As an artist, I strive to be true to who I am through the art I make. I appreciate simplicity, not trends. Sundance provides me the support to stay true to my craft. I see how jewelry has changed over the years, but I will always value hand worked, hand crafted, artisan jewelry. I am not a reproduction artist. I work in the old craftsmanship style, as I value the simplicity of the old methods. Sundance represents this mindset, and I respect their quality craftsmanship and the way product is presented in their catalogs. The Sundance customer appreciates the beauty and imperfection of hand-made jewelry. United, we create an experience that is both unique and timeless. —Dennis Hogan
