Here's what Massachusetts artist Janna Ugone says about the iron and wood lamp she designed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Sundance Catalog: "I wanted to capture the essence of Sundance: an artful and original palette, a nod to vintage western woven with a unique contemporary twist, and wildlife imagery of running horses, bear, fish and more to remind us of mother nature." I first met Sundance at the Sante Fe Indian Market. In true Sundance form, they came to witness the masters on the square and jewelers behind tall wooden doors. Sundance represents the gravity of the mountains, the horses, the films, and the warmth of a team. Always, I have felt Sundance’s deeply rooted respect and long standing support of originality and creativity from film to furniture. After 25 years, Sundance continues to celebrate artisans, nurturing the artistry of those they inspire and find inspirational. The lamp I designed for Sundance’s 25th Anniversary was born from the following vision: A Sundance Artist’s cabin, displaying the work of talented artisans. Natural elements and rugged mountains mix with echoing native plantings; a colorful, handmade, woven rug adorns the floor, an intricate blanket near the hearth, and the warm glow of a painterly lamp intricately placed. This exclusive lamp captures the essence of Sundance in its artful and original palette, a nod to vintage western wovens. A unique, contemporary twist and wildlife imagery of running horses, bear, fish, and more, remind us of the preciousness of Mother Nature. Painterly, artful, unique, soulful. That’s Sundance. —Janna Ugone

Limited edition, unframed pony print of original acrylic and oil painting on canvas. 24"W x 24"H.
Since 2006, I have had the privilege to work with Sundance Catalog. Robert Redford’s beautiful vision and philosophy of supporting unique and creative people is the founding principal of Sundance’s success. I am extremely grateful and honored to be associated with this company. I left my birth country of South Africa fifteen years ago. At that time, I dreamed of making a living doing what I absolutely love, painting. Sundance catalog has been a major stepping stone to success in my journey as an artist. A beautiful ripple effect has been created due to my partnership with Sundance. Their support of my work has allowed me to donate to various charities. Wild horse preservation organizations here in the United States, as well as Aids orphanages in South Africa have been supported, thanks in part to Sundance’s vision. Forever grateful. —Karen Bezuidenhout

Made just for Sundance, this brightly striped throw celebrates a collaboration of a dozen years between Sundance and the master knitters of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We supplied a design based on old serapes to our Bosnian artisans whose skills turned it into a warm and striking throw, giving employment to hundreds of women and supporting traditional craft techniques. Wool. Hand wash. Exclusive. 50" x 60".
For 12 years, these Bosnian artisans have partnered with Sundance. Traditional craft techniques are a very important part of their cultural heritage, and steady support from Sundance has kept these techniques alive. Each product sold to international markets represents the beauty of the tradition and native skills of our artisans. This heritage is found in Sundance products ranging from knitted blankets, baby socks, hats and slipper socks, to Christmas stockings and tree skirts. In Bosnia, Sundance provides 700 artisans work and steady income. Though this may appear insignificant in some countries where unemployment reaches nearly 50%, the biggest percentage of marginalized population being war widows and single mothers with very poor education, the impact is immense. This steady income has changed lives, allowing mothers means to pay for school for their children, purchase computer equipment, and renovate their homes recently devastated by war.

With details reminiscent of a sampler, our heirloom wool Turkish rug replicates an antique woven a hundred years ago. Hand knotted in wool on village looms in Turkey. Exclusive. 3' x 9', 4' x 6', 5' x 8' and 6' x 9'.
This is a reproduction of an early 1900's carpet from the Oushak area of Turkey. Carpet weaving, both kilim (flat weave) and carpet (hand knotted) are a very cultural tradition in Turkey. The craft has been handed down from mother to daughter for over a thousand years. The weaving families live in agricultural villages throughout this beautiful Taros mountain region. The weaving was traditionally done in the fall and winter after the crops were harvested. This original wool rug design was created for the families' own use. The reason for the many bright colors that are mixed throughout the design, is that the original rug was made of found materials that were available in the home at the time. They may have been acrylic, wool, goat hair, and cotton materials that were turned into a very cheery and useful carpet that was proudly handed down from generation to generation.
