This is a reproduction of an early 1900's carpet from the Oushak area of Turkey. Carpet weaving, both kilim (flat weave) and carpet (hand knotted) are a very cultural tradition in Turkey. The craft has been handed down from mother to daughter for over a thousand years. The weaving families live in agricultural villages throughout this beautiful Taros mountain region. The weaving was traditionally done in the fall and winter after the crops were harvested. This original wool rug design was created for the families' own use. The reason for the many bright colors that are mixed throughout the design, is that the original rug was made of found materials that were available in the home at the time. They may have been acrylic, wool, goat hair, and cotton materials that were turned into a very cheery and useful carpet that was proudly handed down from generation to generation.

Our hand-knotted rugs will enhance the character of any room. For more than twenty-five years, Sundance has sought out the finest craftspeople in the world, supporting collaboration between designers and artisans from every corner of the globe. It’s the skill and dedication of this far-flung community of craftspeople that allows us to offer our extraordinary collection of hand-knotted area rugs. The work that goes into each piece is tremendous. In one of these hand-knotted rugs, one single square inch might be composed of as many as sixty individual knots, each made with care. Like a piece of pointillist décor, all of these knots add up to a design with stunning style, depth and texture, unlike anything produced on a loom. Our collection of hand-knotted- area rugs offers a variety of color schemes, sizes and patterns, so you can find one that will fit any space perfectly. You’ll love the way the clear handicraft of their compositions lends authenticity to the elements that surround them, providing your coffee table, dining table or sofa with an extra air of sophistication . You’ll love the way the material feels under foot, too—and you can add an extra layer of comfort (and help preserve the hand-knotted rug’s material) by placing one of our rug pads underneath it.
