One of the oldest textile fibers known to man, silk has been used by the Chinese since the 27th century BC. Silk, mentioned by Aristotle, became a valuable commodity in both Greece and Rome. In fact, during the Roman Empire, silk sold for its weight in gold. Today, silk remains another word for elegance, and silk garments are prized for their versatility, wearability and comfort.
Georgette fabric is a textile traditionally made from silk, although synthetic fibers such as polyester are sometimes used as well. The thing that makes georgette fabric distinctive is the crinkly crepe-light texture, which feels slightly rough and dull, but gives the fabric a bouncy, flowing look.
