The diamond is the birthstone for April. Its origin derives from the Greek word "adamas," meaning unconquerable and indestructible. The Greeks believed the fire in the diamond reflected the constant flame of love. The diamond is an extremely hard, highly refractive crystalline form of carbon that is usually colorless and is used as a gemstone and in abrasives, cutting tools, and other applications. The blue hue is a result of trace amounts of boron in the stone's crystal structure. Today, diamonds are found in Brazil, South Africa, Siberia and Western Canada.
