Our Product Story
One of the oldest textile fibers known to man, silk has been used by the Chinese since the 27th century BC. Silk, mentioned by Aristotle, became a valuable commodity in both Greece and Rome. In fact, during the Roman Empire, silk sold for its weight in gold. Today, silk remains another word for elegance, and silk garments are prized for their versatility, wearability and comfort.
Silk--soie in French--is the strongest of the natural fibers. A steel filament of the same diameter will break before a filament of silk will. Silk absorbs moisture, which makes it cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Because of its high absorbency, it takes dye well and thus creates deep, rich colors. Silk drapes well yet retains its shape, caresses the figure, and shimmers with a luster all its own.
