Our Product Story
Apatite is the beautiful imposter of the gem world. In fact, the name comes from the Greek word meaning to deceive, alluding to the stone's similarity to other gems such as aquamarine, peridot and beryl. It is an abundant calcium phosphate mineral occurring in all rock types. Transparent to opaque it ranges from colorless to yellow, green, blue and violet. When cut correctly, this stone is a bright and beautiful gem with strong color.
Onyx is a semi-precious stone that is black and white, generally arranged in layers. It is a form of agate with parallel banding. This structure lends itself to cameo making. A species of chalcedony, onyx was the ancient birthstone for the month of July and is found primarily in India and South America. The name was used by the Romans for a variety of stones, including alabaster, chalcedony, and what is now known as onyx marble. Cool water is usually poured over onyx during cutting and lathing to prevent cracking and minimize dust. Onyx can be fragile and requires a delicate touch.
Sterling silver is a white, highly reflective precious metal composed of 925 parts of pure silver and 75 parts alloy, usually copper. Copper provides the silver with sufficient hardness and wearing qualities, as pure silver is too soft to be used or worn everyday. Sterling silver is used in a wide variety of jewelry for a beautiful polished look.
