Lapis lazuli is a true rock because it consists of an amalgamation of minerals, including lazurite, sodalite, calcite and hauyne. Bright flecks of yellow pyrite and patches of calcite are often visible in this blue gem. The composition and color varies, ranging from light to dark blue with intense dark blue being the most valuable. Cleopatra, the Queen of the Nile, favored this gem, and ancient Egyptians meditated on the color to get closer to the gods.
Sterling silver is a white, highly reflective precious metal composed of 925 parts of pure silver and 75 parts alloy, usually copper. Copper provides the silver with sufficient hardness and wearing qualities, as pure silver is sometimes considered too soft to be used or worn everyday. Sterling silver is used in a wide variety of jewelry for a beautiful polished look.
