Nylon is the generic term for man-made fibers composed of long chain synthetic polyamides derived from coal and petroleum. The term "moleskin" is derived from molequin, the Arabian name for an old fabric. Moleskin is a heavy, strong, cotton fabric woven with coarse, carded yarns and then given a short nap or sheared to produce a suede-like finish.
The word corduroy probably is derived from the French phrase "cord du roi," meaning "king's cord." Corduroy is a strong and durable fabric generally made of cotton, with a plain or twill weave foundation. During the weaving process, the fibers are cut differently and brushed up to form the pile in ridges or cords.
