Our Product Story
|
Since ancient times teak has been one of the world's most valuable timber tree. Pieces of teak have been found in India over 200 years old and still intact. It is native to India and Malaysia, but is widely cultivated in other tropical areas.
The teak used in Indonesia is "plantation teak." In 1816, the Dutch colonies began planting and harvesting the trees in large plantations. Today, the Indonesian government controls it. Producing teak in this manner helps reduce the harvesting of wild populations.
The teak tree (Tectona grandis) is a tall deciduous tree that can grow to 150 feet in height. It is a moderately hard, immensely stable, easily worked and prized for its durability. Teakwood is superior to all other woods for shipbuilding because it contains an essential oil that resists the action of water and prevents the rusting of iron. Teak is widely used in furniture building too.

Care Recommendations: Dust with a soft, clean cloth moistened with a high quality polishing agent. Dry dusting may cause microscopic scratches on the furniture surface. Do not use soap and water on wood furniture, as water can penetrate the finish and raise the grain on wood.
Use the same type of polish consistently; furniture finishes may become cloudy or streaky if oil-based and wax-based products are interchanged. Change the dusting cloth frequently. Commercial polishing agents can help restore the shine to wood, repel moisture and add a pleasing scent to the room. They do not, however, replace moisture in the wood cells.
Try to arrange furniture out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources. Heat creates a chemical change in furniture finishes, which can result in white spots. Use protective pads and coasters. If spills occur, blot them immediately, do not rub.
